About me
"Putting a label on a person is like putting a label on the water in a river. It's ignoring the flow of time." - Derek Sivers, How to Live
It's hard to write a static page about yourself. I'm changing all the time. Here are some facts and basic beliefs that direct the flow of my river.
A Brief History
Born in New York City, raised in New Jersey to two parents from New York. Went to public school in NJ and college at the UConn; studied math and statistics. Moved to Austin, TX right after college and Brownsville, TX in 2022, then back to Austin in February 2025.
Professional Life
I’m on my third career. I was a loan originator, then worked in tech sales, then learned to code and am now a software engineer. Lately, I’ve been learning to exercise a creative muscle that’s been dormant since I was very young. It’s kind of scary.
Some Basic Beliefs
- Health. Without health, I have nothing. I have a wide definition of health: physical health, spiritual health, social health, familial health, and financial health. Mental health is a subcategory of physical health; your brain is an organ after all. The foundation of good health: daily movement, a healthy diet of mostly single ingredient foods (read: fruits & vegetables), as much time outdoors as possible, quality sleep, a strong social life.
- High quality inputs. More books, less scrolling, less screen time. Mental inputs lead to thoughts, thoughts lead to actions, actions lead to change and build your life.
- Diverse experiences. Try new things, experience new places, meet new people, explore new ideas, and learn new things.
- Longevity of things. The longer something has been around, the more likely there is something important about it. Eg: spirituality.
- Animals. I love animals. Dogs, cats, horses, humans, hedgehogs—you name it, and I love it.
- Meditation. Learning to meditate changed the trajectory of my life more than anything else.
- The Golden Rule. Treat others how you want to be treated.
- Humor. Humor is the spirit of life. Find a way to laugh often.
- Hard choices, easy life. Hard choice now, easy life later. Easy choice now, hard life later. Counterintuitive to that, life should come with a sense of ease, but that’s not to say it should be easy.
- Perspective. The world won’t change, but I can. Change my perspective, change the world.
- Fear of heights. I’m terrified of heights. My palms sweat just typing that. I get vertigo sitting on a barstool with no back. Yes, this is a defining character trait.
